Practice Areas

Personal Injury - the area of the law which involves civil cases designed to obtain compensation for injury to your person. The personal injury attorney usually tries to negotiate with the opposing party or their insurance company. If necessary, and if the attorney thinks you have a good chance of winning, the case may go to trial. The main concerns in a personal injury case are negligence and liability. Before you can collect an award, your attorney will have to prove that the defendant is liable. To prove liability, the attorney must establish negligence. If there is a failure to exercise reasonable care to prevent injury or damage then there may be negligence. Once liability and negligence have been established, the judge or the jury may award money to compensate for medical costs, lost wages and lost future earnings as well as for pain and suffering.

Workers Compensation Law - an area of law which focuses on the remedies and compensation available to an employee who is injured in an accident arising out of and in the course of employment. The compensation is paid to the worker (or to the spouse/dependents in the case of death) by an employer whose strict liability for such compensation is established by statute. The injured employee is not required to prove negligence or fault. Workers' Compensation benefits include payment of medical bills, payment of weekly workers' compensation benefits while the injured employee is temporarily totally disabled and an amount for permanency based upon the nature and extent of the injuries.

Wrongful Death - an area of law which seeks to provide compensation to the next of kin of a person whose death was caused by the negligent, willful, or wrongful act, neglect, omission, or default of another.

Medical Malpractice - an area of the law which focuses on representing those who have suffered injury, illness or death from the negligence, misconduct, or deviation from acceptable standard of medical care of a physician, hospital, medical clinic or other health care provider.

Drivers License Reinstatement - the area of law practiced before the Illinois Secretary of State assisting those who have had their license suspended or revoked in Illinois. When the Illinois Secretary of State revokes an individual's driver's license after two or more DUI's, the individual can request a formal hearing to request full reinstatement of driving privileges, or in the alternative, a restricted driving permit allowing the individual to drive to and from work (work permit), to alcohol/drug group support meetings such as AA, NA or CA (support permit), to regularly scheduled medical appointments (medical permit) or to and from school (education permit).

DUI - the area of law involving individuals arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Defenses to DUI may potentially include insufficient evidence, factual innocence, illegal traffic stop and improper testing. One or more DUI convictions can have serious adverse effects on an individual's driver's license.

Insurance Claims -this is an area of law which pertains to claims against the claimant's insurance company or another person's insurance company for insurance benefits available under the particular insurance policy. There are many different types of insurance claims including, but not limited to, fire loss claims, homeowner's insurance claims for many accidents (including dog bite injuries), and uninsured/underinsured motorist claims when an injured person is involved in an automobile accident and the person who caused the accident did not have any insurance (an uninsured motorist claim) or enough insurance to cover the injured person's damages (as underinsured motorist claim).
